Adam Carolla and the Professor Sandy Ganz cover the Coronado Vintage Race with Adam driving his Datsun 610 and delivering the commentary for the in-car cameras. Some pre-race discussion and then right into the run. After the race, we jump on the phone with some user questions. We wrap up with this weeks tech tip, “Tire patches and You”.

Ganz,
That is totally off subject of the carcast, but I have a question. I have 2005 Dodge 2500 Cummins with the 48RE auto tranny, i tow a pretty big toyhauler (16,000lbs full)my tranny has a hesitation when it shifts from 1st to 2nd, it has been re-built twice by the dealer but keeps taking a crap, I was wondering if you have know of a shop or any tips to remedy. When i am towing i baby this thing, my foot is not in it all. Any help would be great.
I don’t know of a place to help out BUT, when looking for help I hit up the online forums and found out a ton of crap about the Ford Diesels, the place the that has some really top notch people that have seen everything under the sun (www.thedieselstop.com).
For the Dodge/Cummins not sure which one is good but I found this one that seems to have a good amount of traffic – http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/ they might be able to help with it. Also I think their was a company that did diesel transmissions, might have been Sun Coast Converters or Transmissions or something like that. Hit up the Cummins site they will for sure have someone with the same problem. Also don’t know if that powertrain has the ability to change shift programming like some of the other transmission but that might also be something to see also. Otherwise it’s the usual upgrades for converter and clutch packs and valve body.
Lastly do a google search for “48re transmission problems” You will find a lot of info as well.
Sandy
Always helpful Ganz, Thanks!
Excellent race video…great job guys!!
Did you guys see any Audis out there? I recently grabbed an 85 Audi Coupe GT and was thinking it might be good for that event.
Steve
It was a vintage car event, don’t think that 85′ may yet qualify. Not sure, but check with the HMSA they have all the rules.
Sandy
I agree this was a special show, very entertaining, thanks for taking us along to the races. Thanks for sliding that Cortina photo in there. Just a little upset the old mini couldn’t keep up with a Datsun, how embarrassing.
Greg
Sadly the mini did not fare well in the final race results. The mini even looked mini with all the cars out on the track. Surprised to not see more of them. Must be the front wheel drive keeping the mini at the back of the pack 😉
Sandy
Loved the vid of the race & vary nicely edited. Would love to see more like it.
Keep up the great work on the shows on the ACE Broadcasting Network!
What are you using for onboard cameras? They look good.
At the end of the vid it lists the website for the cameras: http://www.vholdr.com which redirects to contour.com. 1080p helmet cams for $279!? Good times.
We are running 3 ContourHD’s in the 610, one in the Ass, One on the Passenger roll bar, and one in the lower front above the air dam.
The vholdr.com site has updated it to the contour.com site and are one in the same. Easy to setup and good quality videos even after they are compressed for the web.
Sandy
Great vid on the tire repair, this week I had 2 screws in 2 of my tires and this info would have been very helpful, I am now heading out to my local Pep boys to pick this kit up and a portable air pump as well, love CarCast and the entire ACE network I listen to you all on Stitcher.
Very entertaining carcast this week. Love the racing footage!
Awesome Video Guys! I cracked up watching the Realness of Adam fumbling around with the belts, can you imagine how fun it would be to watch Adam try a Le mans Start, running across the Track with his shoes untied. That 610 has some balls. It’s too bad the driver is such a Basket Case. Just kidding, I Love you Guys! Keep up the good work.
I’m finally catching up on my CarCasts and was pleased to hear you guys mention the Rimiccis. Great guys.
The Giulia Supers are fantastic cars, extremely fun to drive…they are absolute sleepers. I’ve seen some great old footage of Giulia Supers and Cortinas dicing on the track back in the day. Great stuff.
Anyway, you should invite the Rimiccis over to CarCast. Have ’em bring down a couple of their Alfas.
Kick ass video! Love the sound of that Datsun L-series woofing through twin Mikuni 50s, and that spoiler cam rocks! BTW- the red car with the Cortina tails is a TVR. I remember the Rimiccis from Alfa Club (AROSC) time trials in the 90s. Was fun running my 510 with the Alfas in their events. Good times.
Thanks, and I think we need one more camera on the foot box or something, more work for Jeff the editor but will make the vids more fun. The ContourHD cameras are nice and small and will cram another one in somewhere.
Sandy
Was also wondering, why the switch to what look like Revolution wheels on the 610? What happened to the 8-spoke Minilites? Even a set of Panasports would be more period correct looking than those Revos.
Not sure why Adam changed them, I think he just wanted to have a different look and mess with the offset. All I know is that I had to mount and balance tire. They looked ok on the car.
Sandy
Adam, those wheels look Bangin’. They fill out the wheel wells perfectly. TEDMAN the Revolution wheels have been around since 1967. So they are are period correct but BOb Sharp did use Minilites.
Adam likes the Revolutions and he wanted to do a old school look in Gold like they use to do on Ferrarri’s Porsches etc.
Addicted to CarCast… and new to all the “scene” stuff…
Any chance you all will hit the Watkins Glen Vintage Races in early Sept 2011 ??
Don’t I wish. We all want to get to the Glen, but it so tough to get out with Adam’s schedule.
Sandy
Ganz,
That was an exciting race in person and I’m glad to finally know why Adam dropped to the back of the pack. The video editing was awesome!
I’ve got some great pics if you’ve got a way for me to get them to you. You missed the race on Saturday where the bimmer that won totally clipped the Aceman right in front of the bleachers.
Cheers,
Brian
