Show Summary

Adam Carolla and Matt D’Andria answer a few listener car questions in between Adam rants. Then we bring in drift champion Dai Yoshihara and his aluminum V8-powered Nissan 240. Dai talks about racing and tearing up tires, then we go out into the parking lot to check out his car. Dai fires up the 240 and throws a couple of window-rattling revs.

Thanks, I enjoyed that. I was thinking to myself “Why do I like motor-sport?” and answered, “If I lose, it’s my mistake”. That very statement (essentially) was in the video, said by the Porsche guy who, sorry, I forget his name.

Paul Newman is cool. In 20th century England, they had “Finishing Schools” for girls so they could learn how to be attractive. There should be the equivalent for guys, a male “Cool School” where they hand down essential tips, like eat while the Sunglasses dangle by one ear, happy & relaxed but still intense.

the porsche guy story was pretty cool. i had a similar story where i was working on a job site and i never meet anyone at work who likes the same type of cars and racing i like. usually everybody i work with are into lifted trucks, dirtbikes and ski boats. one day i overheard a painter telling another guy that he was autocrossing over the weekend and they other guy dosent know anything other than ovals and drag strips. i saw this painter at the lunch truck and mentioned i overheard he autocrosses and asked what he drives. he said “oh i have a 911 gt3rs cup” and it didnt really process immediately but thats a full on race car! at that point i thought he was just messing with me because he just looks like an ordinary painter. he said he bought it used from a japanese racing team and it was a limited production 2002 996 and he bought it for 80k and had the motor rebuilt for 50k and he raced in some pca series and nasa series. he completely blew my mind and even brought in an inconel header that was damaged. its not exactly a 917 but still the coolest random running into of a car fanatic thats ever happened to me

I always find it interesting that every time the evolution of the Z car is discussed on Carcast, Adam always speaks as if the 90-96 300ZX (Z32) did not exist…or maybe he just doesn’t know anything about it? I have to lean toward the former since it is universally the most popular version of the Z to hardcore Nissan guys, other than the original 240. That said, it is as if he has never been to the first Z car show, convention, or similar vintage Nissan event, which I find odd since his race cars show up on occasion.

For what it’s worth, the Z32 turbo had nearly identical performance as the 350 series in every facet, not to mention spot-on curb weight when comparing the normally aspirated version. Virtually every period article on the Z32 mentions that it literally saved Nissan’s image from obscurity, and all recent articles call it a modern classic. But somehow Adam doesn’t know it exists…or maybe he thinks it was just a slick, uber-round looking version of the “gold chain crowd” wedge 300ZX made between 84-89 that only had 160 hp and a carryover strut suspension from the 280ZX? The Z32 does not share a single part with that car other than the engine block, period. Even that piece was modified accordingly, to handle the near doubling of power.

i thinik i would equate the z line to a beautiful woman going from a light run every morning to full on body builder workout. they started with something light and slender to something huge and powerfull and without the sexiness. im guessing hed rather talk about the car with the nice midriff than the car with the giant clittoris

I was flipping through the channels last weekend and I saw some drifting on Fuel and the guy who won the championship was a guy named Tyler McGittin or something like that. I couldn’t stop laughing every time the announcer said “McGittin”. Wow, the beginning of the reality that we are heading into the “Mike Judge Idiocracy Movie”

    • Matt December 5, 2011

Funny. Except he might have been talking about Vaughn Gittin Jr. Vaughn drives for Ford and Falken Tires.

        Matt your right,
I couldn’t stop lauging. That’s my new porn name Vaughn Gittin!

Mazda has made a few Mx-5/Miatas with all the performance features with roll up windows, sport suspension, non power seats, etc.

Just listened to this podcast and was surprised to see that LS7 in the car, cool. Which makes me want to ask this question. What pushrod motor does Toyota manufacture that qualifies them to race Nascar? I guess with Ford and Chevy still using loosley based LT and Windsor style engines maybe it’s not a Nascar requirement anymore, it seems like it was at one time…

Matt. What is the poop on that Panamera? Saw it up here yesterday in fresno and Adam actually thought it might be the 3.6 NA motor. It looked great though.

It’s funny how Aceman is always putting down the Hondas, yet he loves the mini. Honda’s have proven to build some of the best motors in the world in cars with features like a double wishbone suspension that is almost never found in a car in that price range. I don’t think he’s ever seen a well built one, let alone driven one. It would be great to get a hold of the Comptech guys (Now CT engineering/driving ambition) or any of the good Honda tuners so they can be featured on carcast.
