I can remember Newman climbing out of the Z after setting a new record at Laguna Seca (I refuse to call it Mazda Infinion), and saying that he was going to have words with the motor builders because it was nearly undriveable due to being down on power! This was just after he had set a new class record and broke it twice more on the same tank of gas as the car lightened up. Didn’t get a chance to stay for race day (this was the Wednesday before the T/A race), couldn’t get the day(s) off, but that 30 minutes of watching that Z at full song with Newman at his best was worth what it cost me in favors to the boss! Watched the race later on ESPN, he had Scott Sharp in the second car and they buried them (dad Sharp had to get on the radio and give team orders to Scott to back off because only the two red, white and blue cars seemed to be on the pace).

As long time race crew member of Bob Sharp Racing, I was one of their fabricators from 1972 to 1987.
Doing everything required to construct your 300zx you have in your shop. And over all those years I worked a lot of hours, traveled the country met many racers. If you ever would like to heard some stories about the car you have from a crew members point of view let me know
Oh by the way that is not the original steering wheel on the 300zx.
