It was after a blind turn. Why wouldn’t you have a flagman there? Course workers are usually volunteers. Could they not afford a set of flags?
Could it be that the roll bar was done like that for the accordion factor the sleeve would give you during assembly for sizing?
Max Balchowski was a racer and builder, he built a lot of cars using the aluminum V8 Buick engines. Max was also good friends with legendary hollywood stunt man Carey Loftin. Max helped in many movies including Bullitt.
