Somehow I feel like the wheel and tire technologies are stuck on the old ways, and not doing the “out of the box” thinking thing. I’ve seen pictures of strange wheel assemblies that look like fan-like strips the car rides on, instead of the normal metal/rubber assembly. Why don’t I see more of this type of “out of the box” designs/ideas from tire companies? Are they so locked-in to the metal and rubber compound infrastructure’s that they can’t allow themselves do any truly radical changes?
