Fontana Racing – HSR West

July 9, 2010

Adam Carolla and Sandy Ganz take you out to the races. The Professors loads up Adam’s Bob Sharp Datsun 610 and pull an early run out to the HSR-West event in Fontana California hosted at the Auto Club Speedway. Les Canaday of Classic Datsun is there in hand to help out with the car prep and keep things running smooth. Adam narrates the race and finishes just out of reach of the podium even after a couple of driver ‘glitches’. And How about this, we return to investment cars and then finally jump in with Stan Misraje’s 1940 Ford Woody Wagon. Enjoy the Show!

Yep, the 610 is an easy one to get video now. I think the next one might be the BRE Roadster which will be just as easy to get video off of. Might be at Coronado Vintage Races in a few months. We still need a CarCast Track day!

Ace, quit letting go of the wheel when your rears break free. I know it works, but you can gather it up quicker with your hands and you don’t run the risk of your wheels getting turned somewhere you don’t want them to…like when you are in the grass.

    Good stuff.

I was messing a bit with him, in the slow-mo mode it looks like he just throws his hands up and gives up. Had a lot of fun (well making fun) of Adam’s mishaps. We did all agree that he did an excellent job and it was a fun event!

Woodwork & cars – surprised Adam didn’t blow a load in his pants!

Standard Response – “I’ll get right on it”

I would love to have just MPH/RPM on screen. When we get some sponsors that drop off the gear you will find it quickly on one of the cars 😉

The data acquisition stuff is getting pretty reasonable so you may see it at some point. It really easy if you have a late model computer car, but even the old stuff we have is not too bad to get going and the overlay software is pretty inexpensive.

Good thought, I’ll have to come up with something…

Actually, I was being facetious. I thought telemetry was too expensive for amateurs. I imagine it’s a great teaching tool. Overlay your data with a Pro’s on the same course. Compare speed, braking time/duration, acceleration, G-forces, etc. Then you know exactly where you went wrong, and how to improve. Cool.

It’s not all that bad for the simple stuff, they have GPS that gives a ton of the hard to get stuff, and track overlay, it’s really slick check out the below brands –

The one I had looked at was TrackVision / Traqmate and was not all that crazy $$. Might have to give them a call for sponsorship 😉

Is Adam not heel-toeing? Not judging cause I can’t do it either, but i thought it would cause some trouble on the track.

AC: what’s the avarage lap speed on the Fontana Califonrnia Raceway?

RG: Fontana, I wanna say 180 plus MPH is gonna take it for the pole. I know
the time is 39 seconds for two miles. 39 flat for two miles.

    AC: That is smokin’.

Hey guys- my wife and I are going to SOCAL this weekend and my wife swears that there is some restaurant Adam talks about fondly, not Zankou and not his own restaurant. I vaguely rememeber him and talking about some meat place but I don’t remember anything else. Can you give me a hand? I commented here because I know Sandy will read it. Also, love the Carcast.

      Daniel –

Not exactly sure, been to Morton’s Steak House with him, not sure if that is it, the only other one might be Brazilian churrascaria steakhouse Fogo de Chao. Both Expensive, but both really good. Check out Google for locations.

Fogo de Chao it is! Thanks a lot guys! Keep up the awesome work. I just watched the in-car footage and it looks great. Well done everybody (except for you Adam for putting the car in 1st when you meant 3rd. My sister did that once too… when she was 16).

  9. Daniel Laraway

I listened to the race but couldn’t find the site to watch it. Please let me know how to watch it.
    thanks
