Duane Norman’s Datsun 510

Special Guest Car and Race Driver this week. Duane Norman and his Datsun 510 Racer share his background and show off his special Datsun 510. Duane was in a racing accident that resulted in a spinal-cord injury that left him wheelchair bound. Well that was only for a short time, Duane built and ran a dune buggy and picked up his pilots license, but racing was still wanted to do and here we are with this weeks Racer Profile and Guest Car. Duane’s 510 with it’s custom control systems helps keep him at the front of the pack.

Hey Adam & Sandy, what do you guys think of Australian cars from the newer ones such as the Pontiac G8 to the muscule cars such as the Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase 3 which are fetching A$1m (Approx US$900k? Love the podcasts, wish they were longer to make the long drives out here in the outback more bereable. Cheers.

I like the many of the Australian cars, the Holden Commodore from a few years back looked cool, as well as the Falcon’s. Not super up to date these days, but I do know that you guys need to change the steering to the other side so we can get a few of those cool cars! Pontiac’s are all done so when they finally started getting some of the nicer styles they are all doomed. Not rue if the G8 will survive given GM’s crash and slash plan.

And where do you get that combo shifter/blower engagement lever stuff like in Mad Max’s MFP? Just poking a bit of fun 😉 Hey maybe a Movie Muff just came out!

Jayson, glad you’re enjoying the show!

    To Whom It May Concern:

I am the Executive Director of Cal-Diego PVA and was wondering what would be the chance of linking your video of Duane Norman (Coronado Speed Festival interview) to Cal-Diego PVA’s You Tube or the Chapter’s home page? Because the MotorSports program is so unique, we want to be able to show everyone what we are doing with paralyzed veterans.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 800-223-2778.

    Thank you.

I’ve often wondered what I would trade the devil in order to drive a 510 in competition. If I could have Duane’s attitude and perseverence, I would jump at it.
The joke about blowing into a straw and winning at Nurburgring is very funny. The fact that he got the humor and matter-of-fact just said, “Hey, I figured out a solution” was very inspiring.
Get him on a regular podcast. Not a celebrity, but a good story. A crossover interview. Get Terry Gross and Charlie Rose off the air and replace with ACE.
