Careful there, Dan Neil; you need to get out of New York, or wherever, as you’re allowing politics to trump facts. The budget for the EPA under Bush, with a Republican congress, rose from @ $7.5 B to over $8 B, even as the country fought two wars and dealt with massive natural disasters. The EPA budget went down when the Democrats took over the congress, in 2006, and was back under $7.5 B when Bush left ofice. Under Clinton and a Democratic congress, the EPA budget actually fell from $6.7 to $6.6 B, then rose when Republicans took over congress in 1994 to $7.5 B in 2000.

Democratic congresses have cut the EPA budget repeatedly, under Republican and Democrat presidents, with the only recent exception under Obama, as he and they have turned the EPA into the vanguard in the war on the private sector. The real numbers are easy enough to find:

I felt a bit sorry for Dan, he was in the middle of a tennis match. The Car Show looks like it’s going to be fun to watch though, nice promo.

Great show this week, just wish it was twice as long. Too bad I don’t get Speed.

“pardon the pun when I say dodge ….”.
topic for “What can’t Adam complain about”:
speakers who say, “pardon the pun” or “no pun intended” when their audience (1 person or a 10,000 listeners) are fully capable of recognizing when a pun is intended, and otherwise take the speaker’s words at face value.

Yes, the Italia is sexier car, but it’s by no means pretty. To me, it looks like a snake — one fast animal that’s *not* beautiful, at least to my ineducable eye.

So the Ferarri/McClaren comparison isn’t apples and oranges; it’s Acura’s and Nissans. I like Nissans.

Speaking of Sheik Douchebags, I notice people are pronouncing it “Fair-RAH-ree” now, like they live there. Actually, I am too. It’s fun to say “Fair-RAH-ree”.

Screwed up McLaren and forgot an “a”. It’s Saturday.

I remember reading Dan’s writing at the LA Times. He could never let an article go without a shot at Bush. I see he still can’t. Let it go Dan. It’s been three years. That presidency is over. He knows his cars, but he comes off as such an elitist, lefty, snob. He seems like a better fit for the NY Times than the WSJ.

It’s kind of funny(ironic) how Adam is so particular about the pronunciation of “Gallardo” when he butchers “Murciélago” in the next breath without even realizing it. The accent is over the e (é), so you stress that part of the word. He pronounces it “mur-ci-e-LA-go”, with the accent on the wrong part of the word. What a dipshit.

This was one of my favorite CarCast episodes ever. I wish it would have been longer too… I’m hoping The Car Show is great.

By the way, the Ferrari 458 Italia is the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. It is the PERFECT car in all ways. That front end…………………… the things I would do to it sexually.

Before I hit play, I thought Dan was Scott Thompson from Kids in the hall…all the car knowledge, half the gay…

it’s the matching pocket square–gay, gay, gay, gay, gay.

Thanks for discussing the new Lambo, thing is sick!

Tim The Tool Man Taylor.. in real life knows nothing about tools building etc.. was even on an episode of this old house Bob Villa said really you know nothing about building.. yea was just an act for a tv show..

Adam The Car man Carolla.. should be Adams new nick name (ACE cant stand people that make up there own nicknames anyway) where he does know about building.. but knows nothing about cars even admits to not being a very good driver.

I’m officially a fan on Dan Neil now. I’m a fan of any critique that is well informed. Watched the show on hulu 3 times so far.

I think Dans story about the Pontiac Aztek design process would actually make for an interesting premise for a segment on The Car Show. Top Gear USA would never do a story like that and would be very interesting for americans to understand why most of our stuff is so mediocre. Remember…..top gear uk isn’t always funny (Senna film) and thats not a bad thing.

Ace Man! White socks!?! C’mon buddy, pull it together.

I could swear I saw that Lamborghini test drive on The Car Show tonight before on Dan Neil’s show Ticket to Ride? Now, I know what you’re thinking, you thought no one ever saw that show. But I did see a couple episodes and it wasn’t too bad. Dan wasn’t nearly as snobby as I expected him to be, you know, for being an “uptown” guy. I think he actually has a sense of humor, very dry, but it’s there… It’s like finding reverse in a old VW van.

Now about that whole Masarati SUV thing… You guys remember a car called the Ford Lotus Catina/Capri? That’s going back a ways. Some things that don’t sound like they would work together, actually end up working very well…

A Hemi Maserati? Well, somethings that sound like they won’t work, don’t… like a Power Stroke Superduty Landrover?

Great car show, even with Neil on it… 😉
