Good idea to mark the cord and make it more valuable to an Adam Carolla fan, I’ll have that hanging on my wall.
Ahh, Dootson’s School of Trucking…where I met my first love. Her name was Penelope, the year…1977. We bonded over a shared passion for double clutch transmissions. Let’s just say by the end of our first term, she could handle an 18-wheeler drive shaft with the best of them.
Wheels look good. Crazy San Fernando valley powder paying guy did good!
Tell Adam he should get a low milage 2008 R32!!!
All wheel drive, 250 hp… Small car with lots of space inside. At least test drive one!!!!
WOW is that engine beautiful. What a great looking car. I want one.
I still can’t figure out why Adam won’t buy a 2009 370Z instead of some secretary car?
The 370Z is a great car, but would be pretty much the worst fit for what it sounds like he’s looking for.
1. Probably too big
2. Not exotic enough for “celebrity cred”
3. Considering his collection, 370Z has mediocre performance
4. Terrible utility; he’s going to haul kids
Adam just by a MINI that’s what you really want.
For a fun little 4 banger car, what about a MazdaSpeed3.
I have one and it is a load of fun, get a used earlier year I think they look better then the newer ones.
mazda is building great stuff. speed3 might be one of the best bang for the buck cars going. but that goofy smiling grille is enough to turn me away.
Yeah I agree that’s why you want an early Speed3, they don’t have that freakn’ weird looking grille.
i think the smiley grille started in 2010. that means he would have to find an 09 that hasn’t been beat to shit. hard to do with these cars, they are too fun to toss around.
seems adam is looking for something brand new, i could be wrong tho.
Perfect car for Adam. The Focus ST is coming out later this year or early next year. Plenty of room for kids, great power, and an american car. Keep the money in this country baby.
Adam-
The Volt cord is about 25 feet long. I have one. Next, anybody in suburbia here in So. Cal. can pull into their garage or in their driveway and plug it in. It takes 10 hours on the 120 to charge it and about 4 hours on the 240. If you only plug it in for two hours as you said you did, you are not going to drive too far. It is meant to be charged up overnight at your house. Lastly, the car gets 40 mpg on the gas powered generator/motor when the battery is drained on the highway. It is likely the most sophisticated car in this price range that I have ever driven or owned. I am getting about 200 MPG on my Volt and I am glad I am not driving my CLS 63 with that payment and 12 MPG around town.
Compare Nissan Leaf SL for 29K and Ford Focus Electric for 39K.
Nissan has the right approach for all electric.
Charging is what is hanging up people – but Nissan website says it can charge 80% in 30 minutes for a special industrial charger (out in “Charging Stations”).
The Automobile Industry makes to much money on internal combustion vehicles. To many people make their living on “tooling” for these powerplants for automobiles.
I believe that “commuters” will need to go to a small smartcar size platform with a 50 mile range and get out of thinking of a vehicle as being a status symbol.
The Southern California area cannot handle everyone driving large footprint vehicles just to get from home to work and back.
A whole new “commuter industry” will have to be created for electric to become viable.
how about the new beetle? they look cool as hell, the base model is under 20k, turbo for around 23500.
loved this week’s car cast BTW.
they seem to have taken a cue from honda, they have simplified the option packages. if you want a sunroof, add 10K.
The link to Les’ site is broken, fwiw.
Fixed. Thanks for the heads up. — Col. Jeff
Forget the Xbox for learning Infineon. Try iRacing. It’s a serious simulation. Maybe $10 a month. Brilliant fun!
Throw away your battery cars and get diesels.
The X1 is finally coming to the US. sDrive28i has the new N20 4-cylinder with 240hp.
Cheap, very utilitarian. Offered in manual and 8-speed auto.
They call is a SAV, but to me it looks more like a 4-door hatch.
Looks good in M-sport trim: http://e84.xbimmers.com/goodiesforyou/x1/nyias2012/msport/IMG_8310.jpg
