Audi have had a solar panel in the sunroof option in the A8 since the mid 90’s. This powers the fans in the car running over the a/c condenser inside the car where you left it, so this works over the heater in the winter too for people who don’t live in California or Death Valley. There is also the keyless start so you can lock the car with the engine running if you want the full kahuna as I have done by mistake.
Aceman, since the a/c systems in many cars (hybrids and electric cars) have already gone to an electrically driven compressor, your idea of parking lot cooling may soon come to fruition. It’s going to have to have a serious battery pack since those things draw HUGE amperage, but it’s possible for a short amount of time. I believe cost and fuel economy hits from the extra battery and wiring weight is holding it back.
