‘Top Gear’ offends Mexican Ambassador

In the instalment, hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were reviewing a Mexican sports car.
Hammond suggested that cars reflect national characteristics, adding that Mexican vehicles would be “lazy, feckless, flatulent, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat”.
The trio also made fun of Mexican food, with Clarkson describing it as “refried sick” and May saying it is “like sick with cheese on it”. Clarkson also suggested that they would not get any complaints because the Ambassador would be asleep.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Emily and admiring her Rambler at a past Mooneyes show. They are both delightful (says the owner of a streetrodded ’60 Rambler American).
That’s an overhead VALVE, not overhead CAM engine Adam! You did mention pushrods, so you were thinking overhead valve (OHV) anyway….
The Nash Rambler was made from 1950-55. In 1956 the Rambler got bigger and was sold as a separate model through 57. in 1958 the big Nash and Hudson boats were dropped. AMC sold everything under the Rambler name. The old Rambler was billed as the “Rambler 6” and “Rebel” (Rambler 6 but with a 250 V-8), and an extended wheelbase version was called the “Ambassador by Rambler”. The little 100″ wheelbase 55 Nash Rambler was reintroduced as the 58 Rambler American with a few changes — flatter hood, front wheels unskirted (as Emily pointed out, but they were opened up for the 55 models), and a few other minor things. I have to point out that this is the only time an old model was successfully reintroduced in the US market. The car was technically two years old when it came out in 58! The old L-head (flat head) six was also reintroduced. Plenty of the little Ramblers were built in 1960 — over 108.933. Over 33,000 were two door sedans. There was also a popular two door wagon and a four door sedan (no four door wagon). The more powerful 195.6 OHV engine was an option starting in 1960 (L-head was rated at 90 hp, OHV at 125 hp).
